The Visual Story (04/02/08)
ASSIGNMENT 9 (Due April 9)
PART ONE
The class will be divided up into 3 groups.
Group 1 - Roland, Catherine K., Ryan, Cian
Group 2 – Sangmin, Anja, Kathryn B., Julia, Char
Group 3 – Aritz, Reni, Chihiro, YinYang
PART TWO
Each member will present 1 final book idea that related to your individual brand story (consider that all 13 books will end up together as a set). Use Lulu.com as a resource for the final production. Things that must be considered for the book:
• How can you fill 32 or 48 pages with amazing visual content? How does it relate to your brand story?
• ‘Brand story’ origins and development – Is it an intro section or at the end of the book? How many spreads?
• Case or cover – Hard or soft cover? How does it relate to the ‘brand story’? How is the title shown, how is it branded, how will it work with the other publications?
• Book (produced by Lulu.com) – Image layouts, text, credits, orientation, size, production schedule?
• Inclusions/customizations – How is the ‘standard’ Lulu.com book customized to be more ‘special’, are there objects (sticker set, poster, band-aids, pins, etc) in the case, if so, what and why? How are they related to the ‘brand story’
PART THREE
Each group will meet and work together to present concepts gathering all 13 individual books onto one volume. Show research/resources and actual samples/prototypes that illustrate your concepts.
WORK DUE
You will present your assignment via the class blog. Be sure to post your work on the blog BEFORE class.
